What a Busy Day at the Office!
October 14, 2015

Remembering the relaxing time in New Mexico

*There was no time for me to take photos today, but I will include a few from our time driving in the mountains with Bob and Vickey last week.

My, oh my!  My day at the office was very busy.  I had gotten up a little earlier than the last few days, but still later than I need to get up.  By the time I fixed breakfast, took my shower, worked in the backyard briefly on the feeders and bird baths, it was time to go to work.

Thankfully when I got there, the air-conditioner was working well and the office was cool.  It was not long  before Ron left on several jobs and an errand or two for his mother.  At once, it got busy at the shop and I was on my feet for a solid hour at one time and almost that long another time, plus I was up and down at my desk too many times to count.  It was 2:15 before I got my lunch out to try to eat and 3:15 before I gave up with the little I had eaten and returned the rest to the refrigerator.

Ron stopped by briefly about 2:45 to place an order and I ate some of my lunch while he was there.  While all that was going on, I was trying to balance the bank statement that finally came yesterday!  There were little glitches along the way.  In the first place, each time I started to enter anything into the computer, a customer would come in.  After they left, I had to find where I was and try again, with a new customer coming in about the time I would find my place.

I can not understand why the company that processes our credit card sales divides our deposits into multiple deposits so often.  This month 3 of them were divided.  There is no logic at all to how they handle them!  It took hours to do what should have taken 20 or 15 minutes at the most.

Toward the end of the day, it slowed down a little and Ron came in 15 minutes before closing.  He needed to attend a meeting at the public utility company.  They are going to start replacing all the underground electric lines in our neighborhood.  It should take a year to a year and a half to do it all and we are toward the end of the plan.  Only Ron and one other person went to the meeting out of hundreds who got letters about it.

When he left the office, he locked up and I stayed for another hour working on the reports.  I am almost ready to send the things to the accountant.  I must say this was the most stressful day I have had in a long time.  I am very glad for all the customers and some were very interesting, but I am exhausted!

One interesting customer was the wife of a man Ron and I know.  She helps run her husband's office.  We got into a conversation about the joys of trying to run the office.  At one point I mentioned my difficulty with Yellow Page salesmen and she said that was what the phone call was about that had interrupted our conversation.  I could tell the caller would not take "NO" for an answer, but had not idea who it was.

We discussed the need for a group meeting of office wives who work for their husbands and how to handle the scam phone calls, the misleading letters, the fine print in contracts, etc.  I could tell this lady and I could be friends.  This was only the second time I had ever seen her, but we do have a lot in common.  As we chatted, we had a brief rain shower, but for the most part, it was a very hot, sunny day.  One of my customers came in soaking wet from sweat and after we chatted a bit, I asked if he would like a cup of water.  He was very appreciative.  He was probably in his late 70s and had been working outside.  I am thankful I was not working outside today.

When I finally arrived home, I started fixing supper and when Ron came in we each ate different meals, mostly of leftovers.  The evening was quiet as I worked a little on my quilt to calm my nerves and then read for a while.  Life is good in spite of my exhaustion and frustrations.  I did get a lot done today and am eager to see what tomorrow brings.
