Mother's Day Celebrations
May 11, 2014

What a blessing it is for me to have the wonderful mother that I have, and that she is 91 years young and in amazingly good health.  She is alert, active, and caring.  She visits friends in the hospital, nursing homes, or takes food to them  in their homes when they are in poor health.  She is an avid computer user, loves to do research, and loves her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and now great, great-grandchildren with all her heart.
Ron is also blessed to have his mom.  She is mentally very alert, but she has a variety of physical problems that limit her activities.  She finds a lot of joy in her ability to continue to do intricate needlework.  She loves to read and like my mom, she loves her family.  Ron spent time with her late this afternoon since she did not feel up to joining us for lunch.

Last night I was up much later than planned.  I was working in the kitchen and then decided on a relaxing bath and went to bed with a good book...and tossed and turned for hours.  This morning I was up early to get a few more things done for lunch today with the family and ended up asking my husband to take his car and go on to Sunday School at the church and I went about 15 minutes later.

Our lesson is class was excellent as it focused on Proverbs 31 that covers the attributes of a woman who loves the Lord and serves her family in all ways.  Some people see this chapter in the Bible as limiting and making a woman a second class citizen, but if you truly read it, you will see a woman who is admired throughout the community, who helps those around her, who manages the financial needs in many situations and is active in the businesses of the community.

From there we went into the Worship Service and our pastor presented one of the best Mother's Day sermons I have ever heard.  Many women who are childless often choose to stay home on Mother's Day because it hurts too much to be in a service where a pastor is going on and on about the joys of Motherhood.  This sermon focused on each of us honoring our own mother.  It was a very well prepared message.

All of our local family came to our house for lunch after church with the exception of Ron's mom.  We had my mom, my brother-in-law Jim, and our son Jeff, his wife Barbara, and their seven children.  Ron grilled fajitas and hot dogs outside and I got the rest of the lunch ready inside.  We had such a good lunch.  The fajitas have never been better!

We all ate and visited, laughed and there were even some tears shed, but everyone had a great time and seemed to be filled to satisfaction (or past) with the great food.  For me, at times the noise level got pretty intense.  When you combine little kids having a lot of fun at Grandma's house, the general noise of food preparation in the kitchen and some piano-playing grandchildren, it did get loud, but there was such joy.
Jeff and his oldest two boys cleaned the kitchen and were great helpers in so many ways.  We spent time watching the birds, playing in the yard, and just generally having a good time.  It was 4:30 when they all headed their separate ways.  I think we all hated to end the afternoon.
There are many times that the sounds can get overwhelming to me, but I wouldn't want to miss the laughter of my children and grandchildren, or the retelling of their favorite childhood memories.  What a nice afternoon.

During the evening, I was able to talk to the rest of our sons and one daughter-in-law.  We have a wonderful family!  God has blessed us in so many wonderful ways!
