Sleeping Too Late
Saturday,  August 3, 2013

As I have mentioned, my housekeeper comes at 7:45 on Saturday mornings.  Ron is usually gone by then and so I have to be sure to be up to let her in.  Well, this morning, my vibrating alarm clock woke me up at 6:15 and I hit the snooze alarm.  I vibrated again at 6:25 and I tried to reset it for 7:00.  I guess I didn't do something right because the next thing I knew, it was 8:05!  Yikes!  I have to be "up" before the housekeeper comes because I don't hear the door bell (a very loud one) or the phone (a very loud one) without my sound processor on.  I was afraid Silvia had come and gone, but she was relaxing in her car, waiting for me to wake up.  From now on I will have to be up before Ron leaves.  Grrrr.....

During the morning, I did an assortment of house keeping chores myself.  I was tossing junk mail and old newspapers, etc.  Then I worked in the yard for about an hour, re-potting some of the plants we bought in Houston.  I ran out of potting soil so had to put off the rest of that chore.

The woodpeckers kept me entertained for much of the day.  They are bringing their young out to eat the oranges that I try to keep out for their enjoyment.  This male Golden-fronted Woodpecker seems to be making a new home in the tree next to where I put out the oranges.  He may want to be closer to the fast food service.

The young woodpeckers are so much fun to watch.  Like any youngster, they are easily distracted.  They will be eating and another bird will fly over them and they stop to watch.  Then they see another and watch it, finally remembering they were there to eat.  There seem to be a young male and a young female in the family.  This is the young male.

Once Ron got back about noon, I headed out to take care of a couple of errands.  I was able to converse with the clerks with no trouble, but later in the day, Ron went with me to Wal-Mart (to get potting soil and groceries) and I could not understand the clerk there at  all.  I do get frustrated when I can't understand someone.  I know that we all have trouble understanding some people whether we are hearing impaired or not.  I was glad Ron had gone with me.

Once things were put away, I read for a while and then went back to work in the yard for a couple of hours, working on re-potting plants and cleaning up some of the others.  It was very pleasant working in the yard late in the afternoon.  I did take off my sound processor while I was out there.  Sometimes I just need the peace and quiet.  There are times I get loud noises in my head, with or without the sound processor on.  It is hard to tell what causes these.  The audiologist had no ideas.  One of them happened while I was working in the yard.  I don't know if these are regular tinnitus (ringing in the ears) or something else.

This evening I talked to my son Bob for a while on the phone, but had to ask him to repeat things A LOT.  I am just not doing well on the phone.  All in all, I am doing so well, that I think my patience with the areas that are hard, wears thin.

  1. Have you tried the phone that types out the conversation as you or they talk on the phone? I've seen ads for it but haven't seen one. I would like to get my mom one but haven't done it yet...have to approach her first. LOL!!! Keep up the faith & keep on trying!!! Hugs & hands together!!!

    1. Dottie, I have not tried that phone. A third party types the conversation for you and since our phone line at home is also our business after hours line, I have hesitated to do that, but may end up going to it in the near future. You have to qualify for the need for it, and I assume I would. Your Mom's audiologist or hearing aid person would have to fill out the paper work for it to get the typing service for free.
