About Me

About Me:

Welcome to my blog!

I am Linda Johnston, a 67-year-old wife, mother, and grandmother. My husband and I own a small business and we both work there full time.  We live in South Texas.  We have 4 grown sons.  (Update : It is now 2016 and I am 70 years old!  Not sure how that happened.  I don't feel that old.)

For 20 years I had a considerable amount of hearing loss, but January 18, 2013, I suffered what is known as Sudden Hearing Loss. Within a few hours I lost almost all the hearing that I had left.  Standard treatments were tried in hopes of restoring my hearing, but they did not work.

I had surgery in Houston, TX for a Cochlear Implant in my left ear on June 10, 2013.  Activation was on July 2, 2013.  If you particularly want to read about the actual surgery or the activation, check around those dates.  Thrown into all that, on June 1, 2013 I fell while working in my yard and fractured my left elbow and had to have surgery for that on June 3 - one week before the Cochlear Implant surgery.  In my elbow accident I broke two bones and one healed well, but the other slipped and eventually had to be replaced with an artificial piece in early September, 2013.

On this blog I am trying to share my experiences in hopes that they can help others who have a similar problem or those who have a family member who is hard of hearing. This is what has happened and is happening to me and it may be different than your experience if you have hearing loss. I hope that you will take this journey with me. I try to be very honest about the ups and downs along the way.  Welcome aboard.  Please feel free to leave comments.  You only need a free gmail.com address to be able to comment.
